Florida State football saw a return to a high level in 2022. Will the Seminoles take the next step in 2023? Watch FSU football all 2023 season long on Fubo.

After multiple very down seasons by its illustrious standards, Florida State football saw a return to prominence in 2022, finishing the campaign with a 10-3 record and ranked No. 11 in the country after a Cheeze-It Bowl victory over Oklahoma. And after an elite offseason that not only saw the Seminoles return many of the key players from that 2022 team but also add to the upperclassmen ranks through the transfer portal, expectations are even higher in Tallahassee for 2023, something that head coach Mike Norvell not only accepts but relishes. Key among the returning players is senior quarterback Jordan Travis, who has developed into one of the top signal-callers in the country.

Who are the best returning Florida State football players for 2023?

The jury is still out on whether Travis will be a top NFL quarterback prospect - his arm strength isn't elite but he displays great touch and accuracy, and is a very mobile threat with his legs - but as far as college quarterbacks go, not many are on his level.

The Seminoles were also buoyed by the announcement that monstrous edge rusher Jared Verse would also be back for the 2023 season. Verse is considered by many to be the top pass-rushing prospect in college football, and likely would have been a high first-round pick last season, had he come out.

Along with Verse, running back Trey Benson and wide receiver Johnny Wilson also could have gone pro but decided to come back for another season at Florida State. Benson is strong, explosive and difficult to bring down while Wilson is 6-foot-7 but has decent enough quickness for his size to make him a legitimate deep threat and a major red-zone target. The Seminoles even brought in Michigan State wide receiver transfer Keon Coleman, another huge threat for Travis and a potential star in the ACC in 2023.

All three of those players should be day-two NFL draft picks but might even work their way into first-round consideration with big seasons.
